I'm not insane... I haven't forgot about this. It's just been too nice outside to be inside. This is perfect for a rainy day. Plus, school is back in session again too.

If you want to be a contributor and make a few of your own toll free calls and share the experience then by all means shoot me an email and I'll add you on as a contributor. I'm a full-time student that also works. This project could take forever and a day... any help would be appreciated.

They're sending me baby products, coupons, and reading materials! This is something I truly do not need. I did tell the phone rep I was calling for my friend that just had a baby last week (which is true). Do you think the information they send will help me take care of my neices and nephews? I rarely ever get to babysit but these phamplets could really make me the best aunt ever!

Note: this was my first phone call and I had no idea who I was calling. All the baby questions threw me off guard. I guess I sould have learned from this but alas I had an even tougher situation when I called Bosch Tools. I will post about that later.

I'm off to bed.

Guidelines...

The purpose of this project is to call at least 100 toll free numbers to see if they will send me free stuff. Hubs was fantastic enough to get me started by sending me a list of 100 toll free numbers. I have also started adding my own numbers to the list of products I have around the house.

I'm not sure if I have any rules for this yet. I've already made a few calls and had to tell some pretty decent lies to get free stuff. I'm not sure where I stand on the lying issue. Today I made a few more calls and was straight up honest about what I was trying to do. I certainly do not consider myself to be the first person to call these numbers and ask for free stuff. I will take anything - catalogs, coupons, samples... whatever. I also try to say as many times during the call as I can that "I like free stuff". I just like using the word "stuff". It's way better than asking for "samples" or "things".

Once stuff starts hitting my mailbox I will be taking photographs and posting them up.

Here are a few things I will not do:
  • I will not look on a company's website to order anything. It defeats the purpose of calling and talking to a real live human being.
  • If a company refers me to another number to call I will not call it unless it is toll free. I would love it if they could connect me to a person that could help me. I will call a non-toll free number if I think the free stuff is worth it (that's left up to my discretion).
  • I will be polite on all of these calls. The last thing a phone monkey needs is to talk to a crazy lady on acid asking for free stuff. Customer service reps generally have low paying terrible jobs with shitty managers. Yes, I am speaking from experience.
These guidelines are subject to change at any time that I see fit.

It's stuff. I want stuff. I want it for free.
